After the sell out success of Volume 1, compilers Tony Higgins and Mike Peden dig once again into their archives of rare jazz to draw a collection of deep cuts from Japan released between 1969 and 1983. The compilation touches on a variety of styles, from cinematic roaring big-band (Nobuo Hara) and sparse minimal acoustic funk (Teru Sakomoto), to deep spiritual modal epics (Makoto Terashita and Harold Land) and funk fusion (Electro Keyboard Orchestra). In so doing this is a compilation that neatly bridges the gap between jazz’s more traditional strains and the current crop of contemporary jazz artists making waves in the UK, USA and beyond.

Pressed to heavyweight triple vinyl, complete with gatefold sleeve and Japanese style OBI strip, this compilation is a collector’s item in itself.
