Description

BBE Music announces the third single taken from upcoming David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, an understated electronic version of ‘The Man Who Sold The World’, recorded by London duo The Hics.

Comprising Sam Paul Evans and Rox Barker, the Hics combine elements of melodic jazz soul and folk styles into their distinctive, ever evolving electronic fusion sound, which saw them nominated in the Best Breakthrough Act category at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards in 2013. In recent years, the pair have also become frequent collaborators with JCole’s much-hyped Dreamville artist, Bas.

Their dream-like interpretation of ’The Man Who Sold The World’ beautifully reflects the ethereal, haunted nature of the song’s lyrics, written at a time when Bowie was struggling to reconcile Ziggy and David, wrestling with public and private personas.

“We both love Bowie so being asked to reimagine a song of our choice was a no brainer. David Bowie is a national treasure so it’s a true honour to pay homage to the man. The choice to cover ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ came very quickly, being a personal favourite.” – The Hics

Slated for release on May 28th 2021, ‘Modern Love, A David Bowie Tribute Album’ also features Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Kit Sebastian, Jeff Parker, Sessa, Helado Negro, Khruangbin, Nia Andrews, Foxtrott, L’Rain, Eddie Chacon & John Carroll Kirby, Jonah Mutono, Bullion, Meshell Ndegeocello, Matthew Tavares and We Are KING.
