THIS IS THE RADIO EDITION OF MSHINI WAM - CLEAN LYRICS ONLY!
Part of a new breed of African artists, 24 year old Spoek Mathambo (Rapper/DJ and Graphic Designer/Illustrator) is hitting the world hard with his take on Afro-futurism. Spoek sees himself as a part of a new wave of energy in Africa, which is intent on nurturing a sense of progressiveness while maintaining a pride in culture.
As front-man for electrorap outfits SWEAT.X and PLAYDOE, Spoek Mathambo has over the last couple of years become a increasingly prominent figure in the international music scene.
Spoek Mathambo has been chosen to represent Africa in the Nike Sportswear X The Fader Magazine 'Pitch Perfect' mixtape series, which is a collaboration based around the culture defining magazine. He also has been chosen to be on the cover of Fader Magazine for August/September issue. Furthermore Spoek will be featured with an interview in the German / French TV program Arte "Tracks" in September 2010.
The title of his album "Mshini Wam" is taken from a famous South African song with lyrics in Zulu called "Umshini Wami", what means "My Machine" in English. It is popular amongst members of the military wing of the ANC - in their version it means bring me my machine gun.
Spoek Mathambo wants to give it a new connotation: for him "Mshini Wam" means "My Machine... a way to express a new wave of electronic African music".
